MUHAMMAD’S TEACHINGS TO MANKIND

ḤADĪTH OF THE DAY

“ The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him said, "When the time draws near (1) a believer's vision(2) will rarely be false, and those truest of vision are the truest in speech. The vision of a Muslim is one of forty-six parts of prophecy. There are three kinds of dreams: a good dream, which is glad tidings from God; and a distressing dream, which comes from Satan; and a dream that comes from one's own thoughts. So if any one of you sees something that he (3) hates, he should get up and spit and not tell people about it." He said, "I like seeing fetters (4) in my sleep and hate shackles [around the neck], for fetters represent steadfastness in religion." Footnotes: (1) There is a difference in opinion as to what the time here refers to: one opinion states it refers to the end days, another opinion states it is the time when day and night are equal, and the third states that it refers to the time when time will be perceived as shorter, i.e. a week feels like a day, etc. (2) This vision, seen in dreams, is a form of prophecy. (3) Masculine pronouns are generally used in Arabic as a means for referring to both men and women when the meaning is left general and is not otherwise specified. (4) Leg cuffs ”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الأَصَمِّ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ أَنَا عِنْدَ ظَنِّ عَبْدِى فِىَّ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ إِذَا دَعَانِى. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, "Indeed, God says, 'I am as my bondsman (1) thinks of Me, and I am with him where he supplicates to Me.'"
